Before and Forever.....My Weight Loss Journey

The first and only question I get asked is how did you lose the weight? I am happy to tell you there is no secret, no special diet or pill that can “make” you lose weight. These are all things that can definitely “help” you lose weight but ultimately it is your determination that will “make” you succeed.

Weight loss is a journey of the mind, body and soul. What works for everyone else will not necessarily work for you. We are all different. Not just our body composition but how we deal with everyday stress in our lives.

In today’s society and culture we celebrate with food for a positive or negative experience. When was the last time was your friend called you to go celebrate her/his job promotion by going for a hike? Not likely.

Like most people I was an emotional eater. When I was happy, sad, stressed, mad, I ate. I ate my emotions through a drive through window. I would blame everyone and everything for my weight. Nothing was my fault and the world owed me something.

Food is a drug. When do you take drugs? When you are in pain or trying to understand why things are happening in your life that you feel like are out of your control. Eating can be a habit rather than for nutrition. I’ve learned that you have to use food as a vitamin.

Here are some tips that have helped me throughout my journey…………which still continues.

  1. Don’t blame someone or something for your weight gain

  2. Get out of your comfort zone! Try new things

  3. Don’t try to do everything at once i.e. exercise, eating better. Baby steps

  4. Make a schedule

  5. Have a food journal

  6. Find your confidence

  7. Find “me” time

  8. Learn how to manage stress without food

  9. If you have a cheeseburger one day of the week don’t punish yourself. It’s a trip not a fall. Tomorrow is a new day.

  10. Ask yourself these questions. What motivates you? Who inspires you? What are you passionate about” What are your goals? If you learn to answer these questions the answer will be weight loss.

MY FINAL TIP……DON'T WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WEAR A BATHING SUIT ON VACATION. DO IT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO “LIVE” THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
