Active Release Techniques (ART), is a patented, soft-tissue treatment system which combines pressure and tension to treat problems associated with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. This non-invasive manual therapy approach can simultaneously assess the quality of tissues and break-up sites of fibrosis (scar tissue), vastly improving overuse and strain/sprain injuries. ART can restore mobility, improve circulation, and increase neurological function.

The treatment is most effective for the treatment of musculoskeletal complaints. It is best incorporated as a complement to well-designed rehab exercise program. The manual therapy primes the body for the changes possible through exercise. ART also can help to release muscular tension to help increase the comfort and ease of spinal manipulation.

Over 500 specific protocols exist for management of a variety of conditions including: adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), lateral epicondylosis (tennis elbow), Tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, muscle tension headaches, postural alterations (upper/lower cross syndromes) and others.
